Hidden gems and unique experiences in Istria

Donosimo neke od vrhunskih turističkih lokacija koje Istru čine prvim izborom za turiste.

Brijuni

Brijuni are islands located on the southwest coast of Istria. They represent the only national park in Istria and together with their 14 islands on 736 hectares of land form a perfect symbiosis of nature and its beauty in one place – diverse animal species and rich flora.

Along with them, the extremely rich cultural and historical heritage with about a hundred archaeological objects and localities takes your breath away. This makes Brijuni one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the Mediterranean.

They used to be the epitome of luxury and the favorite destination of world-famous politicians, diplomats, actors and singers. Slowly but surely, this heavenly place is once again becoming an elite gathering place.

Rovinj

On the west coast of Istria, just below the Lim channel, there is a small town that is reputed to be one of the most beautiful cities in Croatia, as well as in the world. The city exudes the spirit of some ancient times, which gives it a special romantic, sentimental touch. Its unique old town core, 67 km long coast, hectares of protected green areas, 16 islands, islets and cliffs make this city our recognizable pearl of natural and cultural-historical beauty.

Pula

According to a Greek legend, Pula was founded 3000 years ago. She experienced her rise in the time of ancient Rome when she was called Iulia Pola Pollentia Herculanea. The legacy of that glorious era is not only visible today, but also forms the main backbone of the city – the Amphitheater (Arena), the Little Theatre, the Arch of Sergius, the Temple of Augustus on the Forum. Even today, this makes it one of the favorite tourist destinations for those who are primarily interested in cultural and historical experiences.

Poreč

In its present form, it was designed by the Romans two millennia ago, after they conquered the natives of Histra. The city was first a military camp, then a fortified city, before growing into an important administrative and economic center, called Colonia Iulia Parentium. Due to its extraordinary geographical location and natural and cultural-historical beauty, today it is one of the strongest tourist centers in Croatia. The city of beautiful monuments, horticultural arrangement and cleanliness, diverse offer of accommodation and sports and recreational activities, is the most frequent target of European tourists to Croatia.

Motovun

The inland area of Istria is just as stunning as its coastline, if not more so. What sets the Motovun region apart are its diverse biology and unique microclimate. Over many years, natural processes have created habitats for numerous plant and animal species. At 277m high, the Motovun hill offers breathtaking views, allowing you to truly appreciate the beauty of the Istrian natural landscape.

The picturesque view spans across the vineyards, the valley of the Mirna River, and the forest of St. A, widely known as the largest habitat of the white truffle. The view extends from the highest Istrian mountain Učka all the way to the sea near Novigrad. Motovun is a city rich in cultural heritage from various historical periods. The Church of St. Stephen was built on the site of an older church, which was likely constructed on the foundations of an ancient basilica.

Motovun is enclosed by walls dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries, featuring high, strong ramparts with towers. In addition to its historical significance, the ancient city hosts several events, festivals, concerts, and cultural, entertainment, and sports events. One of the most notable events is the Motovun Film Festival, which is truly unique and one of the most original film festivals in this part of Europe.
